Role Purpose

  • To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the teaching center, through the management of an in-house teacher development program and support
  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
  • To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience
  • To support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission



  • Plan and deliver high-quality English language lessons that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles – up to the number of contracted teaching hours
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy and sense of progress
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team
  • Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best English Language Teaching (ELT)  practices
  • Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK
  • Assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service and upholding British Council Values and Behaviours
  • Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
    • Child protection
    • Equal Opportunity and Diversity
    • Health and safety




  • Cambridge CELTA  AND OR Trinity Cert TESOL
  • Undergraduate/University degree in any discipline


  • Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma or equivalent
  • PGCE/B.Ed. in Primary/Secondary or equivalent
  • CELT-YL extension/TYLEC

Work Experience

  • 2 years post-certificate (i.e., CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL) experience
  • Experience in teaching relevant age groups:
    • Young learners < 4 (400+ hours)
    • Young learners aged 4 to 7 (400+ hours)
    • Young learners aged 8 to 12 (400+ hours)
    • Young learners aged 13 to 17 (400+ hours)
    • Adults aged 18+(400+ hours)


Salary details


  • Salary: You will be paid at an hourly rate that corresponds to your teaching qualification and experience post qualification as stated below. For non-teaching tasks, you will be paid at an administrative rate for the briefing session & training would be HK$ 247
    • HK$440 (TELF-I)
    • HK$490 (TELF-Q) 
  • Contract: Fixed-term Contract (Renewable) 
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Work schedule: The vast majority of hourly-paid work is on a Saturday and/or Sunday although there may infrequently be the opportunity for work on other days.It may involve travel to one of our branch centres and will more than likely involve teaching Early Years Learners. There is the possibility of extra working hours on Monday to Friday during Summer Courses (July and August)
